Story

Burning sage is part of my evening practice in creating a safe space. It’s the first thing I do when I get home and what I do when I enter a new room in my home. Opening a window clears out unwanted energy that I may have brought in and clears stagnant air or odors from the kitchen downstairs, which brings peace to me and my sacred space where I sleep and dream.

In my bedroom, I prop up my silk-encased pillow between me and the headboard, taking sips of tea, while the shimmering candle beside me sets the room aglow. Lighting one of my candles is a signal to slow down my thoughts, let go of the day’s experiences, connect to myself, connect with God, and is central to me in finding balance from the day.

In 2014, I found myself entering my third act in life, but I hadn’t thought of it that way at the time. My marriage had abruptly ended, my kids were almost grown, and I had the unfortunate experience of being a victim of a horrible crime—one that set me on a journey to heal and ultimately re-create a different me.  Read More …
